Generation Act offers harm reduction services in party events, venues, festivals, queer clubs and other entertainment facilities. Our target population is partygoers between 18 and 28 years of age, fans of techno, psychedelic and electronic music of any gender, sexual orientation or socioeconomic background. The need for our organization arose through personal experience and related research, as it seems that these communities tend to use drugs recreationally and these environments serve as a gateway to experimentation with substances. Therefore, our basic aim is make the information they would need to make safer decisions and informed choices accessible. In the long-term, our aspiration would be to cultivate a healthier partying culture amongst Greek youth.
Our organization has been set up by people of the community we are targeting, with both extensive experience in the field and the necessary educational background. We offer services on the field, in the form of informational flyers regarding safer substance use and sexual practices, as well as condoms, cards, stickers and other paraphernalia. Our aim is to direct partygoers to the website we have set up, which offers extensive information regarding substances and sexual practices. We have tried to create detailed accounts regarding the effects, safer usage practices and possible side effects of each substance that has been noted to be popular for recreational use. At the same time, we have gathered information related to STIs and social issues related to sexual practices, such as consent and safety in clubbing.
In our interventions, we use best practices that are being implemented in other organizations with similar structure and aim in Greece and abroad. We use person-centered approach when intervening, as we try to meet the community where it stands, both literally and figuratively. We offer peer to peer support, on-site aid regarding side effects from substance use and distribution of salt, sugar, gum, electrolytes and other necessary tools where the need arises.
